Zip Ties

Zip ties are one of the most versatile fasteners you can find today. Used in an astounding amount of applications, zip ties are essentially the duct tape of the fastener world. Primarily made for holding wiring or cable together, cable ties go by many names.

Wire ties are excellent for their ease of use, cheap cost and strength. Due to this, you can find tie wraps in many applications they were not initially intended for. Electrical ties were created to bundle electrical wiring or cabling together. These ties took off in popularity due to their unique easy-to-use feature. These cable fasteners are considered a best friend to electricians, mechanics, cable runners and HVAC professionals alike.

Due to their ever-expanding use, plastic cable ties have advanced and become relevant to many other fields. Metal cable ties are commonly used in automotive applications. There are screw mount zip ties which allow a screw to hold them against a surface. Even bead zip ties which allow for a non-permanent and adjustable solution.

Nylon cable ties, also referred to as Plastic ties, are commonly seen in electrical applications to hold electrical wires together. While most companies that run ethernet cable will also use wire ties to bundle their cabling as they go. Automotive cable ties are used in cars frequently to provide a quick fix or a permanent solution (as is the case with metal zip ties).

Colored zip ties are also common to help users keep track of their wiring. Colors are often chosen that make the cable ties less noticeable as well. For example, black ties may be used on black wire bundles to provide a clean finished look.

Cable fasteners are becoming increasingly popular in this computer oriented age. Zip cords are often used to control the mess of cables under a desk to limit the change of pulling out or damaging wires. Plastic tie straps have so many uses it would be impossible to list them all from their intended use all the way to a DIYer, everyone can find applications for cable ties without too much effort.

I'm Bob and today I want to show you these tearaway zip ties installation and removal. Let's get started. So I have here a couple of tearaway zip ties. Basically, you have a clasp and then you have a little handle here. These are typically used in either marking products where they want to remove these. If you have totes with tops on them and they want to seal what's in there to show that they were never broken in transit or for whatever other reasons. These are very simple to install. I'm just doing in here on wires for demonstration purposes. It operates the same way as you do a regular zip tie and you just install it. The nice thing about these you don't need any tools you can just remove this with your hands, with your fingers, and you just grab this tab. You just pull down and it just breaks away. Heavy Duty Cable Ties

Heavy Duty Zip Ties are designed to be used on applications where more strength is required. These cable ties tend to be thicker than standard ties allowing them to provide significantly higher tensile strength. These fasteners are used frequently in the Electrical, Plumbing, I.T. and HVAC Industries due to their versatile use and extreme strength.

Available in both natural nylon and black, heavy duty cable ties are ideal choices for when a situation demands a cable tie. Their incredible tensile strength means they can often be seen used in duct and piping applications. These wire ties have an incredible range of uses and are great for the professional level all the way to the Mr. Fix It of the house.

Mounting Hole Cable Ties

Mounting Hole Cable Ties are excellent ties for use wide variety of bundling applications. These zip ties have a mounting hole above the locking mechanism on the zip tie. Simply mount the bundle with a screw going through the hole. If wiring is predetermined, these ties can be installed prior to bundling or the bundle can be made first and then attatched in the same way.

Mounting hole wire ties are excellent for applications where wiring needs to be suspended from or attatched to a surface such as a wall or ceiling. These ties are one piece ties which makes them consistant and reliable. Natural ties are prefered for internal use with black ties recommended for outdoor applications.

Stainless Steel Cable Ties

Stainless Steel Cable Ties are significantly stronger than nylon cable ties with added benefits. They are resistant to corrosion, chemcial and weathering effects. Stainless steel cable ties feature a rolling ball internal locking mechanism. The ball is designed to only roll one way so sliding the tie ends into the locking mechanism is easy but they cannot be removed just by pulling on them.

Stainless steel cable ties also allow for extreme environmental use without compromising their integrity. They are commonly used the automotive industry but can also be found in utilities, construction, chemical, fire protection, communication, aerospace and nuclear industries. These ties are also made of 316 stainless steel making them the ideal choice for marine environments.

I'm Bob and today I’m going to demonstrate zip ties in stainless steel, 316 Stainless. These things are awesome. Let's get started. I have here stainless steel cable ties, these are 316 stainless. It has this little clasp here which is a roll-able, self-locking cable tie (head mechanism). You just turn these around like that and slide it into the clasp and they lock as soon as you push them in. Just like a regular zip tie. I'm going to show you this on these couple pieces of cable I have here. Slide them in. And it'd be good to have to have a (pair of) pliers with you and you also want to look out for how much tension (you apply). I have lock-jaws here, I'm just gonna grab this and I'm just gonna give it a pull. It's it nice and tight, I'm gonna do another one. If you have pliers it does make it a lot easier. Just pull it tight because if you're working on any fancy cars, you're gonna want it to be nice and tight and look uniform. I have my snips here and as you can see here it has a rounded edge on the on the ends of the zip tie. I'm gonna snip these clean and I will tell you that this gets sharp after you snip them because they are stainless, but it finishes nice. At the same time, I want to show you, I'm going to fasten them to this piece of channel I have here. Just gonna slide this underneath. So if you’re fastening wires to a piece of channel, give it a pull. I'm gonna give this one a pull. Cut off the excess; these are great for automotive. If you have a custom car exhaust; anything under the car, these will not rust so your custom car will look beautiful after many many years. HVAC installations, any type of plumbing, high heat environments, saltwater environments, any corrosive environment. these are the babies you want. Thanks for watching.

Standard Cable Ties

Standard cable ties are the most common form of zip tie. Available in black and clear nylon varieties, these zip ties make fastening a breeze. Electrical ties have become so popular due to their use in virtually any application. While Zip Ties were initially made for bundling electrical cables together, today they have many uses. As these electrical ties have become more popular in other applications, different versions of cable ties were developed to match the tasks at hand. Since the beginning of the original standard type, there are now many varieties. To learn about the different kinds and determine which type you need, consult the information below.

How Much Weight Can Zip Ties Hold?

Cable Ties come in a wide range of widths and lengths. Their length is directly correlated to the maximum bundle diameter. A cable ties' width will determine how much tensile strength the cord is rated to hold. For instance, a standard nylon cable tie with a width of 0.10" has an 18 lb. test weight but a cable tie with a 0.196" width has a test weight of 50 lbs.

Types of Zip Ties

	Standard Nylon Ties Plastic ties used to hold wires together. Especially popular due to their quick use and cheap cost. Commonly used in many applications. Very popular as the "set it and forget it" tie.
	Colored Tear Away Zip Ties Colored zip cords are standard ties that come in multiple colors. They are commonly used to differentiate different bundles of wires from each other. While you can find color zip ties in many varieties, one of the more popular kind are the tear away zip ties. Tear away zip ties are used when the intention of the zip tie is to be short lived. They are often used on totes or other packages for easy removal but to ensure being closed until arrival.
	Stainless Steel Cable Ties Stainless Steel Cable Ties are excellent for replacing standard cable ties when there is exposure to harsh chemicals or weather conditions. They work well in many different environments thanks to their corrosion resistant properties. They are used in a vast amount of applications but one place they are commonly seen is in the automotive industry. Often attached to tubing or exhausts in cars, stainless steel zip ties are considered high temperature zip ties. Stainless steel cable ties also have a dramatically stronger test strength than heavy duty nylon cable ties due to their material.
	Mounting Hole Cable Ties Mounting Hole Cable Ties are great in situations where the bundle of wires needs to be held to the wall or ceiling. Their head has a round opening made for a screw to be driven through into the wall. The screw is enough to hold the zip tie with cables up and when used properly can create a very neat bundling set-up.
	Identification Cable Ties These ties have built in tags designed to be written on for easy identification. Often wiring bundles can be mistaken for other systems due to not being able to see the ends of a wire bundle. They also save a step for the worker who also tags his wiring.
	Releasable Cable Ties Zip ties with some form of lever to press and release the tooth from the grooves holding the tie in place. Technically standard zip ties can have the same functionality but require a very small screwdriver to move the tooth and slide loose. Releasable ties are popular for wiring in situations where cord length needs frequent adjustments.
	Beaded Zip Ties Beaded zip cord have beads along the length of the tie. They are used for their ease of installation and reuse. Having beads along the length means that size adjustments are simple simply remove it from the locked position and pull or push more beads through the hole.
	Push Mount Cable Ties These ties commonly have little wings on the top and are designed to be pushed into a hole after wrapped around a bundle. As the weight attempts to pull them back out of the holes the wings expand, and the push mount ties lock themselves in place.
