Diagonal cutting pliers, sometimes called wire cutters, side cutting pliers, dikes or diags are pliers that have blades on the short ends. They are generally not intended for grabbing wire but for cutting it. Wire cutters act differently from scissors in the way that they cut making them more effective with. When scissors cut they use a shearing action to cut, a pair of dikes digs into the material and then wedges it apart.
