Finishing Cup Washers are used to provide a finish and smooth look where the fastener head is flush with the top of the finishing cup washer. Used primarily for their aesthetic look, they are also used under the head of flat or oval head countersunk screws. Due to these screws head shape they would otherwise be slightly exposed.

Finishing Cup Washer Installation TranscriptScroll Down To Continue Reading Bob: Welcome back to Albany County Fasteners - Fasteners 101. I'm Bob and today we're going to talk about cup washers. So let's get started. So I have here cup washers which are, basically, a finishing cup washer. These are Black Oxy. So they have a black finish on them. I'm gonna slide it right over the head (of the screw). You can really see how nice those look, okay. Really cool finish. I'm just going to slide it in here for the purpose of seeing it and you can see how nice that finishes off; gives you a nice complete finish for the fastener itself. I just wanted to demonstrate that to you and that's in the black oxy finish. Now I have another one, if I can get this out. So I also see we got here so I have a brass flange, I'm sorry incorrect, cup washer, finishing cup washer and this one here I'm going to drive in, this is an oval head screw. You can see this is an oval head and these finish very nicely inside. I'm going to drive this down. It's a little crooked but it's straightening out now. You don't want to go too far with that. So you just want to get the cup washer and you just want to snug it down a little bit because if you continue to drive it, it's going to flatten out and embed the cup washer into the wood. This is a softwood, obviously, I'm using here. This is just for demonstration purposes on how it would look. The next one I'm going to do is stainless. There are three different types of stainless. I have what they call a cup flange. This has, this one here has, this little flange around the edge here. Or we have an 18-8 standard this has no flange on it. This is a standard cup washer. So you can see the finish of a standard cup washer. Which just looks like that. This (screw) is in a flange cup washer it's a little more decorative as far as the look goes. It also grabs more material if you're trying to hold something in place. I'll put the other one back on again. I'm going to show you again. There you go. That's a standard (cup washer). The flange do not come in 3/16 stainless but the standard Cup finishing washer does come in 316 stainless. It's also available in 410 stainless. So I'm going to use, for this particular one, I'm going to drive in the one with the flange so you can see the way that this is going to look. I'm gonna screw that in now and this is an oval head screw also. Perfect. That's basically a nice-looking finish and I'll show you that when I'm done here. We have one more that we're going to screw in. This is a flat head, silicon bronze slotted flat head, you can see here. We have these in all these different finishes. We have it in black oxy, stainless steel, stainless steel cup flange, brass. So we have it in many many different finishes. There we go. Perfect, let's take this out now. I'm going to show you the way they look nicely finished. There you go and that's the finish and that's what it looks like. Thanks for watching. |
