Thread inserts, also called insert nuts, have external knife threads that provide superior holding power in hard and soft woods, particle board and all wood products. They are installed into a material and hold in place. The inside of thread insert nuts have threading made of metal to create a more durible hold. Used wherever field assembly or disassembly could lead to thread erosion or stripping. The long pilot ensures straight driving into a drilled hole. Can be installed with a screwdriver, bolt and nut, tapping head, or EZ LOK driving tool.
Stainless steel threaded inserts are available in coarse and fine threads. Unlike coil inserts, which require a special drill, tap, and installation tool, E-Z LOK threaded inserts for metal are installed using standard tools. Simply drill the appropriately sized hole with a standard drill, tap the hole with a standard tap and then turn in the E-Z LOK like an ordinary fastener with a screwdriver, bolt and jam nut, or an E-Z LOK drive tool.

Brass is an alloy made of copper and zinc. The color of brass can vary from dark to light based on the zinc content; more zinc content produces lighter brass. Brass is prized for its corrosion resistance; however it is quite soft so it is not suitable for all applications. Brass conducts electricity and is also a good conductor of heat. It is often used in pipes, weather stripping, trim, radiators, musical instruments, and firearms.
How to Install Brass Thread Inserts |
Threaded Insert Installation TranscriptScroll Down To Continue Reading Bob: Welcome back to Albany County Fasteners - Fasteners 101. I'm Bob and today we're going to talk about threaded inserts. These little brass inserts that we insert into wood. Let's get started. I have here #10-32 brass threaded inserts. They have these two little cuts inside the top of the insert where there's two notches. This is the driver and this driver connects right into that and then drives in the insert, into the wood. I'm going to put these into softwood. They have these for softwood and hardwood. They have them for both. All depends on what your application is. I have here a spade bit, a 3/8" spade bit. We're going to drill a 3/8" spade bit into the wood and then we're going to drive in this #10-32 threaded insert. So I have here my three-eighths spade bit. That's what the manufacturer recommends. The size hole for a #10-32 insert to be drilled. I'm going to drill that in now I have a dot there and I'm going to drill a hole... Okay, I'm going to take out my bit, I'm going to put my driver in. You can see my driver here. I'm going to put that in my battery drill, like so, there you go you can see it. I have the insert there's a top slide to the insert. That's the bottom it's flush and in here it has those two indentations, two grooves, so you can use the tool to insert this insert. So i'm gonna lay it on there so it gets in there properly. I'm gonna line it up so it stays straight and let's start driving it in. I'm just going to bring it right to where it needs to be. It's Important, that you hold this straight because if you don't it's going to start chipping away at the grooves because brass is a soft metal and it's very important that you hold the bit parallel to the insert. So I've installed it. I just have a piece of aluminum here with a hole in it and if I wanted to attach that, I have a #10-32 screw here. Yeah this is a long screw. I'm just going to tighten it up to show you that you can tighten down on that very strong. Amazing insert. There ya go. Thanks for watching. |
Stainless Steel Threaded Inserts by E-Z Lok are machined out of 303 Stainless Steel and feature standard OD threads. This allows for the use of standard taps for installation, no special tools are required.
Stainless Steel Solid wall inserts are commonly used in maintenance departments and in tool cribs, as well as in the molding and metalworking industries. Stainless Steel Threaded Inserts are a quick and simple solution for reinforcing or repairing holes in soft metals.
303 Stainless Steel Inserts are ideal for applications requiring additional corrosion resistance, as well as food, beverage, and other clean-critical applications.
Helical Inserts are used to reinforce, and repair tapped holes in soft metals. E-Z Lok Helical Inserts feature strong, corrosion resistant internal threads. Helical Inserts are engineered to withstand temperatures up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit.
Helical Inserts are made of 18-8 Stainless Steel wire which is formed into a diamond pattern for strength and then wound or coiled into a spring shape. Before installation, the diameter of a helical insert will be larger than the tapped hole, but once properly installed the insert diameter reduces allowing the helical insert to thread the hole. After installation, E-Z Lok coil inserts will stay firmly in place as the radial pressure of the spring releases.
Stainless Steel Helical Threaded Inserts are ideal for applications requiring additional corrosion resistance, as well as automotive, food, beverage, and other clean-critical applications.
Stainless Steel Helicoil Inserts are available in 18-8 or 304 Stainless Steel.
EZ Lok drive tools are also available in black alloy stainless steel. The E-Z LOK drive tool is used in your cordless driver.
