Hex Flange Nuts are hex nuts with a wide flanged portion near one end that acts as an integrated non-spinning washer. Flange nuts are used to spread the load placed on the nut over a wider surface area to prevent the installation material from damage. The flange acts as a washer which allows the nut to fasten evenly to the surface of the installation material.
Hex flange nuts are very common and used widely in softer installation materials. These nuts come with either a serrated or non-serrated flange. The non-serrated flange gives some of the benefits of a standard flat washer. The serrated version of a flange nut comes with serrations on the bottom of the flange to create a locking effect. The serrations bite into the material it is installed into. This makes the nut less likely to loosen over time due to vibrations. Hex flange nuts also save time and money by removing the need for a washer to be added to each fastener assembly during installation.
