T-Nuts | Fasten Wood to Other Materials
T-nuts are used for anchoring wood to other surfaces. There are flanges on the thin surface of the nut. The flanges act as hooks to hold the nut to a soft surface such as wood or particle board. They can sometimes be serrated to provide a better grip. A t-nut can be used to create a flush surface on the nut side if the bolt is the right length. As a bolt is threaded into the t-nut the hooks sink into the soft surface providing a strong hold. The t-nut gets its name from the flanges extending out from the bolt creating a shape similar a T.
