Tap and Die sets are used to cut and restore internal and external threads precisely. A tap is used to form the female component of the assembly, as in the case of a nut or socket. Used for the internal threads, inserted into a nut and then spun, they have open areas to allow for reduced friction and cooling. Tools like a T handle wrench are used with a tap to create or repair an internal thread.
High Speed Steel is high-performance special steel offering high hardness at temperatures up to 500°C and high wear resistance, thanks to the alloy elements. As such High-speed steel does not lose its temper (hardness) with higher temperatures permitting it to cut faster than high carbon steel.
