Tap Bolts, commonly referred to as hex tap bolts are hex head bolts with a full thread (tip to underneath head) regardless of the bolt length. Hex Tap Bolts differ from Hex Cap Screws in that Hex Cap Screws fully threaded in shorter lengths (usually around up to 1-1/4 inch, depending upon the bolt diameter), and partially threaded with a shoulder beneath the fastener hex head in longer lengths. Hex tap bolts, beneath a certain size, can be considered hex cap screws.
