Flat washers are normally used to distribute loads of threaded bolts, screws and nuts evenly as the fastener is tightened. While there are many types of flat washers standard are the most commonly used.

Metric Fender Washers

Fender Washers are used to prevent pull-though and provide a greater weight bearing surface under the fastener. This prevents nuts, bolts or screws from pulling through base material. Metric fender Washers are distinguished from standard flat washers by their significantly larger outside Diameter (or OD), which creates a larger surface area on the fastener assembly, allowing it to withstand more force. Fender Washers are commonly used to distribute load force on sheet metal, and gain their name from the use on car fenders. Due to their large size they are also used to allow fasteners to connect where rust or damage has made the hole bigger.

Phillips Pan Head SEMS with External Tooth Lock Washers are essentially a pre-assembled machine screw with lock washer. The lock washer is beneath the head of the screw and is free-spinning. This pre-assembly saves time and hassle on production lines and in any application where a machine screw with lock washer may be necessary, since they do not need to be put together, and there is no need to worry about losing a screw or washer. External Tooth SEMS screws provide greater torsional resistance than internal tooth lock washers. Because of the integrated lock washer, SEMS screws are often referred to as lock screws, or locking screws.

Square Washers

Square washers are washers with a greater resistance to movement than a regular washer once fastened. Due to their larger surface area, more contact can help to hold the washer in place.
